ANSWERS TO OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED REED DIFFUSER QUESTIONS
Q
What is a Reed Diffuser and how does it work?
A
Reed Diffusers are a flameless way to scent your home. They provide a great alternative to candles in that there is no fire hazard. The diffuser oil saturates the reed diffuser sticks and throws the scent into the air naturally. Simply flip the reed sticks once a week or so to refresh the scent.
Q
Does Reed Diffuser oil have alcohol in it?
A
Our Reed Diffuser oil does not contain any alcohol, it is 100% alcohol-free which makes it last much longer than other brands. Many of the other brands will use alcohol in the oils, so you always want to check to make sure they are alcohol-free. The ones with alcohol will evaporate very quickly and will not have a strong scent throw. Even major chain stores like Target and Wal-Mart will sell reed diffusers with alcohol in them, so be careful.
Q
Can I reuse the reed sticks over and over?
A
It's best to replace the reed sticks periodically as they will get very saturated over time and tend to lose their effectiveness and will not throw the scent as well. Fortunately the reed diffuser sticks can be purchased from us very cheaply, less than $1 for 10. We recommend replacing them every 3 months or so. Also do not transfer reed sticks from one scent to a completely different scent. If you are interested in purchasing just the reed sticks click here.
Q
How long do Reed Diffusers last?
A
It's hard to give an exact time limit as there are many variables involved that could affect the rate of usage. With that said, we can confidently give an estimate for the reed diffusers we sell. For the 2 oz size you can expect it to last at least 2 months. For the 4 oz size you can expect it to last at least 4 months. The 8 oz size will last at least 8 months.
Q
The Reed Diffuser doesn't scent the room, what's wrong?
A
First make sure you have saturated the reed sticks in the oil and then flip them over so the saturated ends are at the top. You also may be trying to scent too big of a room with a small size reed diffuser. The 2 oz and 4 oz size reed diffusers are better suited for smaller rooms such as bathrooms. For larger rooms we recommend the 8 oz size reed diffuser. One other thing may be that the reed sticks need to be replaced. If they are old, consider replacing them. You can get replacements here.
Q
Where are your Reed Diffusers made?
A
All our reed diffusers are made in our warehouse in California. The reed diffuser oils are from the United States not China, and are very high quality fragrant oils that are not subject to evaporation like other brands.
Q
How many diffuser reed sticks need to go into the bottle?
A
You should put as many reed diffuser sticks in the bottle that fit comfortably. More saturated sticks will fragrance more, but here is a guideline based off the bottle size. For our 2 oz and 4 oz size reed diffusers, put 6-8 sticks. For our 8 oz diffuser, put 8-9 sticks.
Q
Are Reed Diffusers environmentally friendly?
A
Yes, reed diffusers are extremely environmentally friendly, more so than candles. They emanate no soot or film onto your furniture, walls or ceilings. The reed diffuser oil mostly consists of pure essential oils and oil carriers. They are safe for offices, hotel rooms, classrooms, nursing rooms, or any room in your house.
Q
I already have a reed diffuser, but it's empty. Can I just buy the oil refill?
A
Yes, Candle Bay sells just the oil refills. We don't believe in waste and there is no need to buy a whole new reed diffuser if you just need the oil. You can purchase refills by clicking here.
Q
What size reed sticks do I use?
A
The diameter of the reed is a standard 3mm thick, these will provide the maximum scent dispersion. In regards to the length the reed sticks should be, they should be at least as tall as the bottle. For our 2 and 4 oz bottles, we use a 9" tall stick and for our 8 oz bottles we use about a 12" stick. You can go slightly longer, it's really just personal preference.
